We made addition stories today! We used dinosaurs in all of our stories.

Some stories we came up with were:

If 4 dinosaurs are drinking, and 3 dinosaurs are eating. How many dinosaurs are there all together?

There are 3 small dinosaurs and 4 big dinosaurs. How many dinosaurs are there in all?

There are 5 dinosaurs looking at the sky and 5 dinosaurs looking at the ground. How many dinosaurs are there in all?

Great thinking Grade One!

How many people are in your family? This was the question the grade one's looked at today. We talked about who makes up a family. We talked about what families look like. We also talked about how families our different. We have many different kinds of families in our classroom. Some of us have mothers and fathers. Some of us have step-parents. We also have brothers and sisters, and step-brothers and sisters. We even have an uncle in our class!

It's beginning to feel alot like Christmas! The kids are already starting to get excited. It is hard to believe that it is already the end of November.

We continue to work on our numbers to 40 in French. We are also working very hard at trying to learn the days of the week and the months of the year. Do you remember your colours in French. What is pink? What is orange?

In math we have started our addition and subtraction unit. Remember our number trains.

The Grade One's enjoyed Jason Natowhow visiting our school yesterday. Jason sang, drummed, danced, and told stories to the students. Thier favorite part was dancing! It was lots of fun.

Today in math we continued to look at solving problems. We used pictures, numbers and words to solve a variety of problems.

The question was: There are 8 apples in a bag. Some are yellow and some are red. How many of each colour could there be?

The answers we came up with were: 3 yellow and 5 red, 4 yellow and 4 red, 5 yellow and 3 red, and 6 yellow and 2 red.

Great job Grade One in coming up with these fantastic solutions!!

Today was our Remembrance Day ceremony. Thank you to all of the staff that put in so much time getting ready for this time of reflection.

The Grade 1-4 choir did a wonderful job with the two pieces that they presented.

Thank you so much to the Grade One class for sitting so quietly and being so respectful.
Great Job!

One of the best parts of the ceremony was watching a music video by Terry Kelly. The song is called "A Pettance of Time". What a great message of peace and reflection this song sends.

Today the grade ones learned about vehicle safety. We talked about three very important rules when riding in a car (or truck, or van):

1. Always wear a seat belt.

2. Children should always sit in the backseat.

3. Never fight, or shout, while in a vehicle.

Here are some sites to check out on this topic:

A great site for parents

In math we continued looking at building numbers to 20. (Hint: 10 and ____ make 17). Remember the two part mat.

Thanks to our grade six reading buddies. We are having so much fun with you.

I am now revisiting the blogging process. This blog has not been used for almost 2 years. I am happy to be back "in the saddle". I am looking forward to sharing the work and activities that the Grade Ones in Mrs. Heebner and Miss Young's class have been working on.
