We visited a store today!!!! We were each given some pennies, nickels and dimes, and were allowed to spend our money on (pretend) food.

We had lots of fun. What a great way to practice counting our coins.

Thanks so much to Mrs. Baker who helped us with this.

Money!!!!
We have been really working hard on counting our coins. We are counting with pennies, nickels, and dimes.

We can all count with pennies, but we need to keep working on making combinations of all three of the coins.

Can you make:

8 cents
27 cents
35 cents
96 cents

Today we started looking at money. We have been working with money since the beginning of the year. We have looked at all of our Canadian coins: the toonie, loonie, quarter, dime, nickel, and penny.

Do you know the three important things about each coin? (What colour is it? How much is it worth? What picture is on it?)

What did the leprechaun do to our room?

Today was St. Patrick's Day!!!!!!

A leprechaun went wild in our classroom last night!
Our traps didn't even get hime. He was to fast and tricky for us.
He made such a huge mess. He knocked over a stool, threw around books, drew on the board, and made a mess of our clocks. He even left us a note. He also left us a gold coin each (they had chocolate inside)!!!!!!!

We did lots of St. Patrick's Day activities. We did some graphing with Lucky Charms, and did an activity book.

We had a great St. Patrick's Day !!!!!!!!!!

We are coming along very well with our unit on time. In Grade One we learn about time to the hour and to the half hour.

We have been learning about face clocks, as well as digital clocks.

Remember that there are two different hands on a clock. What are there names?

Here are some time games:

Snapdragon- A great game for kids just learning to tell time.

Willy the Watchdog- A game that can be played with a partner.

Feeding Time - A game for kids who can already tell time.

Clockwise - A great game for kids just learning to tell time. (Choose only level 1 or 2 for Grade 1)

We continued to work on time today. We read a story and ordered the events that happened into Beginning, Middle, and End. You can practice doing this with any story you have at home.

We had a great time making our clocks!!! We will be using these clocks during our Math unit on Time.

Today we started to talk about time. We reviewed our seasons.

Do you remember the 4 season?
What types of activities do you do during each season?
How are winter and summer different?

We also talked about ordering events.

Look at your day. What do you do first thing in the morning? What happens next? Then next? Keep going until you get to the end of your day.

Do you do the same things on weekends that you do on week day?

Welcome to March! We have been so busy over the last few days.

Yesterday we talked about Germs.

Do you remember where germs can be found?
What do germs do to our bodies?
How can we help prevent germs?

Do you remember the correct way to wash our hands?

List the steps: (Here is a picture to help you)
