Today we finished our Geometry unit in math.

We finished talking about half. What would your fair share of an apple look like, if you wanted to share it with a friend?

Do you remember how to make half past 6 on your clock?

What is a mira?

We had a great time today using the miras. We created some very neat pictures.

We finished off the day with some shape centers.

Shape Sorter

On Friday we had a very fun morning. We had a pirate morning, to celebrate our last day studying Phoebe Gilman.

We read two of Phoebe's books: Pirate Pearl and Grandma and the Pirates

We did lots of pirate related activities! We went of a treasure hunt. We even made our own treasure maps.

We had the most fun making and eating Grandma's Noodle Pudding (fromt the book Grandma and the Pirates). We each took turns helping to make this delicious pudding. After it baked we all had a piece. We can see why the pirates would want to steal the Noodle Pudding!

What a great warm day!!!!

We went to the police station for a tour. We had a wonderful time. We saw the shooting range, the cells, and the call center. We also got to sit in a police car. It was so much fun. You had some great questions Grade One!!!

Thanks so much to the Moose Jaw Police Station for having us.

Today we created tall towers using our 3-D solids.

Do you remember the names of the 6 3-D solids we talked about.

Which of the solids roll? Which ones have corners? Which ones can you stack?

Today we started our math unit on Geometry.

We reviewed the 4 basic shapes. Can you name them?
We then looked at a few other "new" shapes.

It was lots of fun making shape pictures! We used circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares to make some very interesting picutures.

Always, Sometimes, or Never.

Today we talked about these words. What do they mean?

Can you name something you always do at school?
Can you name something you sometimes do at school?
Can you name something you never do at school?

The kids really enjoyed having fun with these words.

We came up with some silly examples of things we have never seen:
- We have never seen a man walking a fish.
- We have never seen a elephant driving a car.
- We have never seen a dog walking on a telephone pole.
- We have never seen a horse reading a newspaper.

Pretty silly Grade One!!!!

Today we did a great project in math!

We worked in groups. We had to make up a question to ask the Grade 5 class. Our questions had to do with favorite things.

After we had our questions we had to give them 3 choices. Then we created a survey.
After we surveyed the Grade 5's we created graphs.

Here are the questions we came up with:

What is your favorite kind of animal?- cat, dog, hippo, and parrot
What is you favorite kind of animal?- tiger, monkey, and elephant
What is you favorite kind of flower?- rose, tulip, and daisy
What is you favorite game?- baseball, hockey, and football

Thanks so much to the Grade 5 class for answering these questions!
